Vaccination Training for Non Nursing Health Care Personnel

This two day training course aimed at those who are new to vaccination against influenza, pneumonia and or shingles.  This includes e.g. HCSW employed in general practice setting, or community pharmacist (This course is not suitable for registered nurses)

The course will address key elements of the core curriculum for vaccination and immunisation, with the exception of anaphylaxis training.  Including supervised instruction and workshop practice on the administration of intramuscular injections, based on the Royal Marsden Clinical Nursing Procedures guidance as used for pre-qualifying nurses.

The taught element of the course will be delivered by a senior lecturer with many years practical vaccinating experience and teaching regularly courses applying  the National Minimum Standard for Vaccination and Immunisation.  For the practical element this will be delivered by an experienced clinical skill lecturer.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Discuss the rationale for vaccination and identify target group.

  2. To administer influenza, shingles, pneumonia vaccination via PSD

  3. Identify professional and legal accountability of giving injections

  4. React to emergency situation following CPR/Anaphylaxis management protocol (Not taught as part of this training)

HCSW should ideally meet the National Standards for Immunisation Training (HPA 2015) level in that: “It is recommended that only HCSWs who have achieved care training to Level 3 of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) or equivalent in England, Wales or Northern Ireland with at least two years’ experience as a HCSW should be considered for immunisation training. HCSWs working at this level are likely to be at level three of the NHS Career Framework” 
 

Course Details

The Influenza Vaccination is a two day training course at a cost of £250.00. Attendance will be required on both dates to successful complete the course.

N.B: This course will require a minimum number of delegate attendance to be confirmed – A full refund will be made to delegates if the Faculty of Health Sciences have to cancel any courses; we will always give as much notice as possible if this does occur. Unfortunately we cannot offer a refund if places are cancelled by delegates.
