The NHS Cancer Screening Programme (NHSCSP) recommended triennial updates to maintain your name on their register of your regional Public Health England Screening and Immunisation register of cervical sample takers. For nurses and doctor it is also a requirement of your registration to maintain current knowledge in any area of work and be able to demonstrate this at revalidation.
This update is delivered by staff from Public Health England regional representatives discussing the national perspective, epidemiology, quality assurance, changes to the programme and any specific issues in your locality.
The laboratory perspective will be delivered by a senior practitioner outlining pertinent problems in your locality.
A local coplopscopist consultant doctor or nurse will also discuss what happens once your patient is referred to them.
Attending this short update and producing an audit of your last twenty cervical samples you have taken over the past three years will maintain your name on the regional Public Health England database as a sample taker.
This course is an intensive half day aimed at Registered Nurses and Doctors who are cervical sample takers. However, you should have already attended the NHSCSP approved basic Cervical Cytology Training.
- Revise knowledge and understanding of the national cervical cancer screening programme
- Understand the implications of Human Papilloma Virus screening as part of the programme
- What happens after the sample gets to the lab
- Understand the nature of the problem (epidemiology)
The Cervical Cytology Training course will be held at regular intervals at each campus throughout the year at a cost of £50.00 per delegate for 2018 dates and £70 for 2019 dates.
N.B: Each course will require a minimum number of delegate attendance to be confirmed – A full refund will be made to delegates if the School of Health and Social Care have to cancel any courses; we will always give as much notice as possible if this does occur. Unfortunately we cannot offer a refund if places are cancelled by delegates.
